Your pain sits closer to my heart than my own does.
It controls my attention.
It has complete access to my pity.
It violates my empathy.
This is the power I have given to your pain.
This is the power that I have seized from my own pain.
Eventually it overwhelmed me-
so I left my empathy behind,
and ran.
