Shame and secrecy, heaven's ward?
I don't need love like that.
This blasphemy I've so run toward
Ever my jester's hat.
A sagging point, a flapping ball
Takes guidance from the wind.
There to anoint my every fall
With greetings from the end.

The end that I may never see,
(Crooked man's endless mile).
I walk the line ever to be
Bedridden in denial.
My price to pay:  A life alone.
'Lived it forty-plus years.
One sin to pay I'll not atone...
I gave to her my tears.

Essence of soul, I'm trapped in her.
No finding my way back.
The deepest hole... the sightless blur
Of all your world gone black.
All truth be known, even through pain,
I'd not change if I could.
My monotone dance to the wane
Of all in me thought good.

And so my friend, I come to you,
To bare this back's torn flesh.
Foe and fiend, my love still true
Bids me I feed you fresh.
I close my eyes so I can't see
What it is I've become.
But no surprise, 'least not for me,
It's something cold and numb.
