The unintentional martyrs
My dear Friend Jen has been such a guiding light. I feel like singing "this little guiding light of mine, I am going to let it shine, let it shine all the time, let it shine!"
She told me to put-up my poem from a competition post, so here we go!
It was the day of independence
Day of joy, pride and liberation
Young boys and girls came out in uniforms
Girls and boys in their most disciplined form.
March ahead, March forward the school head shouted
Marching across saluting the motherland
But little did they know what lay ahead
Mother earth would repay their gratitude with such harshness
The ground shivered, the children tumbled
All holding the national flag erect
Building fell, crushing many into pieces
Making trenches of blood,
A bloodfull of mud
The flag still stands erect
But the thousands of children are now rejects
They might not be martyrs of a wicked battle
But their sacrifice for their motherland cannot be fathomed
May you rest in peace.
