A Thousand Sighs
Take two steps into darkness, and forever disappear?
Eternity the shattered hand of all that I revere.
Choice: die alone or wish upon the ankh of misery.
Words failing test of shadow drawn, I fade to memory.
At first you grasp, a needful thing; but with sharp elbows out.
Yet nothing found will ease the sting—erase the maddening doubt.
Given to eyes visions of lust, I've seen them all before.
Where your sweet lies left shattered trust in pieces on the floor.
The river of days winds and whines, Emptiness it's valley.
While somewhere buried neath the pines Death awaits it's tally.
The aura twisted, the soul tapped; I walk on but a drone
Mindlessly numbed to burdens strapped I'll bear to my headstone.
Yet now you wail and curse my soul, that I leave with a voice.
As if some silence might console you in light of your choice.
Your dark sunshine forever bleeding, wallow in its wake.
I drew my line on love, pleading... you opted to forsake.
I pour this glass of cold comfort—give toast oblivion.
Somehow 'just know that it won't hurt to touch that midnight sun.
Or with sight burned clean from the eyes, with skin charred from the bones,
Will echoes of a thousand sighs chase me to hell's high throne?
Will you follow me beyond death? How much more must I bear?
Collector of souls, Lust's Macbeth, what more have I to share?
For I ran as far as I could... buried head in the sand.
'Tell you it does a soul no good while you're wishing it damned.
Oh if I could cease to exist, believe me love, I would.
If but to be released the fist of your self-proclaimed "good."
Your rede a sham, your love a curse whispered behind my back;
I pour one more, leave it to verse and watch the world go black.
