Treble on the Horizon (Collaboration)
Ding. My finger plays a silver note upon your spinal xylophone. Clang. I clash my cymballic palm against yours as we waltz along to the harmony of our heartbeats. Onomatopoeia isn't eloquent enough to define the sweet scuffling staccato of our footsteps and music isn't intricate enough to understand the woven web that strings between our hearts. Let me slither down the slender silhouette of a treble cleft and land pillowed in the cleft of your chest where I'll be lullabied by the windchime rise and fall of your softened breath.
I love you all wrong, I love you like the scent of library books and the sound of brand new spines and how words lull into other worlds and how your eyes cajole me into new dimensions. I love you like the sharpness of a font against a page, the slow and steady march of the eyes of a reader, devouring with the wrong sense, tasting with the wrong organ. You're my poetry without music and I'm your song without words and together we're hieroglyphics and the ancient murmurs of the earth's dancing.
You've got me scribbling foreign notes in illogical harmonies that seem to clash, yet flow and mesh nonetheless. And I swear every time my fingertips flip along your pages, I read words I've never heard before, but I'm sure Noah Webster's spinning in his grave with envy at the wondrous words you weave. I feel illiterate around you and I struggle to understand, but I continue to try to puzzle together your intriguing pieces, because I'm positive you'd make a masterpiece if only I had the mind to conceive it.
You are my masterpiece but I can't find the whispers of melody to tell you correctly and your Jane Eyre eyes startle my heart into arrhythmia and my lungs into guilty shallow breaths, begging forgiveness for their gluttony with soft exhalations peppered with the taste of longing and the scent of desire. I'm so far beyond anything I understand I'm standing in the center of the cosmos, spinning amongst star lit confusion and beckoning at the planets, searching for enlightenment between the meteors as the eternal song swirls through my veins and your lips cradle the shape of my name.
The faintest touch of your arm against mine, or the vaguest hint of perfume off your hair has got my skin dancing the electric slide up and down my spine. And oh, I just ache to crush your tender petals against me to smother that feeling into my flesh, but it would only destroy this ardent moment as the delicate folds of your bud dash to the wind. I'm so torn between that desperate desire to hold you close and the need to keep this finespun moment ticklishly intact, so I will succumb to stilling my heart and my breath as I try not to let you fall from my fingertips, nor melt away in my fervent grasp. You are my fragile snow-flecked rose and I am but a barely-bound flame dying to keep you alive.
I curl around your frame like I'm a vine and every word from you makes me blossom into luscious fragrant flowers. Thunder echoes along my bones when you slide your lightning hands through my hair and collect my static and transfer it back to me, sparking, brilliant, brightening, through your luscious delicious lips. This night is beautifully terrifying in how I can't breathe and how I need your touch and how I want your promises, I desire your forevers and I swallow down your perfection with every beat of my heart.
You've got me tiptoeing on the outermost edges of the world, the horizon but a fine line folded between our fingertips, where my earth meets your sky and not even the sun can seek its way between us. We're the end-all-be-all, the alpha and omega, beginning and end of all time. Eternity. Infinity. Timeless and untouchable. The gods must be envious, but their smiles of fortune or their frowns of fate are falling unnoticed to our singularly lovestruck gazes as we tumble through time, lost in each others embrace.
