Determination

 
I scratch and claw
The rocks and dirt
Bloody my fingers and cut my hands
The searing pain begs me to quit
The anger in my heart
Screams at me to keep going
My grip slips and
I slip back down
To the point of initiation
Battered and bruised
Bloodied and drenched with sweat
I fling myself back onto
The slippery walls and curse at the world
Grabbing handfuls of dirt
I clench my teeth and
Spit failure out of my mouth
A taste I have never enjoyed
Digging my feet in deeper into the bile
I begin to climb yet again
My determination
Calling
Singing in my ears and
Success calling to me
From the light
At the top of this abyss
