Masquerade
Your memory creeps in with the sun
Waking me to friendly numbness
Reaching the point where goodbye
Can’t hurt me anymore
I spend each morning barely breathing
Shaping into a perfect lie
Something that hides the truth
And comforts what remains
Put on a façade
Trade faces with another
Paint on a masquerade
Cover up anything real
Hoping to convince into
A heart unable to feel
Life bustles around me
Sirens and tires
Those who care don’t see
Smiles scream around me
People keep on living
While I fall towards dying
I’m a recovered lover
Playing with conviction
What I’ve dishonored
Opposite of my desires
Proving I’m playing a role
Of a recovered lover to par
Feelings that remain
Brush strokes of steel
Hardening my soul

Can’t hurt me anymore
