Is Pride a Bad Thing?

I agree. Modesty is overrated at times, but it is valued.

Well having pride isn't bad, but forsaking everything else in some instances becuz of pride can have
negative outcomes...

If you want my opinion, private pride can be a good thing.  There's a big difference between feeling pride in one's own achievements and trumpeting it to the world.  If I write a poem, for example, and people give me good feedback, then I naturally feel pride inside.  I let it stay there.  And take pride in that poem.

Well, There was a time when I believed that pride was a good thing, a motivational instinct, if you will. But then I got into an argument with my brother about pride one day. I insisted that pride inspired people to do great things. Of course my brother just has to be right about everything and he was going to this Hindu Guru at the time that had convinced him that there was nothing at all good about pride. We grew up Catholics, which as you may know, in Catholicism, pride is one of the 7 deadly sins, but I never really gave it much thought until my brother got it stuck in my head, and there is nothing worse than having your psychologist big brother getting in your head. I kept thinking about it, did some reading about pride and after a lot of thought and soul searching, I came to the conclusion he was right. That is no easy thing for me to admit, just the idea that my brother was right and I was wrong is irritating, even if it was about athlete's foot, never mind something of significance.
