Seconds Late
Every night brings another nightmare
Every day brings another tear.
Once thought to be a great gift
Has become her greatest fear.
A stranger she has never met
Is about to meet their fate.
She knows when, where, and how
But arrives just seconds late.
This time it was different.
The fear was quick to grow.
The victim was no stranger.
She dreamt of how she 'd go.
She dreamt of her apartment.
The intruder seals her fate.
She jerks her body out of it,
But awakens seconds late.
His hands take her breath away.
She has no chance to fight.
The defeat becomes quite peacefull
With the afterlife in sight.
She won't have another nightmare.
She won't have another fear.
Death no longer consumes her.
The irony is the blessing here.
She couldn't save a single life.
Although she tried her best.
Her own fate was sadly sealed
Along with all the rest.
