Shattered Glass
I miss you the way
Certain small things
Are missed
Paper kisses or
Moonlit stones
The way sunshine
Can tell time by
Its shadow
Or the way cats
Leave tiny pawprints
In dust
I miss you the way
Water moves
Surrounding and enveloping
A soundless thunder
that raises deep words
far below the cities
of lost time
the way hunger gnaws
or lightning splits
Unwary trees
I miss you the way
Children share secrets
Or bitter women pass gossip
For a moment and forever
Quiet whispers in
The empty pocket
Of my heart
Certain small things
Are missed
Paper kisses or
Moonlit stones
The way sunshine
Can tell time by
Its shadow
Or the way cats
Leave tiny pawprints
In dust
I miss you the way
Water moves
Surrounding and enveloping
A soundless thunder
that raises deep words
far below the cities
of lost time
the way hunger gnaws
or lightning splits
Unwary trees
I miss you the way
Children share secrets
Or bitter women pass gossip
For a moment and forever
Quiet whispers in
The empty pocket
Of my heart
