Leaky Faucet
Nighttime drops thoughts of you
Like a leaky faucet into my brain
The way you like your hair brushed
And slept with your feet off the bed
The water and the memories
Combine until I want to
Bang my head to stop them both
There is a time for everything
Under heaven; a time to hold you close
And a time to let you go
I had my time to hold you and
Now I must live with what remains
Quiet days and rusty hope
I waited until you left
And then I cut off all my hair
It was my penance, you see
For not keeping you here
Just a little longer
Never mind, it does not matter
What is gone is gone and
Cannot be called back because
I am lonely. You can rest easy now
Knowing you are loved
I must turn my feet toward a place
Where I am loved and missed and
Someone’s best beloved.
Sometimes I guess you can’t have
Everything
Like a leaky faucet into my brain
The way you like your hair brushed
And slept with your feet off the bed
The water and the memories
Combine until I want to
Bang my head to stop them both
There is a time for everything
Under heaven; a time to hold you close
And a time to let you go
I had my time to hold you and
Now I must live with what remains
Quiet days and rusty hope
I waited until you left
And then I cut off all my hair
It was my penance, you see
For not keeping you here
Just a little longer
Never mind, it does not matter
What is gone is gone and
Cannot be called back because
I am lonely. You can rest easy now
Knowing you are loved
I must turn my feet toward a place
Where I am loved and missed and
Someone’s best beloved.
Sometimes I guess you can’t have
Everything
