Stay

Stay
In response to Wait by Galway Kinnell

Stay.
Ignore your surroundings if you must,
But trust the ground beneath your feet.
Is this not the home that sculpted you?
You will find beauty here,
In the buildings and people
And every crevice of yourself.
Barren trees in January will become luring
And that ragged winter jacket will take you
To wonderful places of this grey town
You never thought could exist.
Lust for freedom is an empty pursuit
When one is not familiar with
The roots of their being.

Stay.
Ease your restless feet and mind.
You are eager, yet as is every man.
What lies beyond your front door does
Not compare to what dwells in the
Heart of a home.
Learn to love what it offers.
Stay and listen and find relief.
Understand the familiar comforts around you;
Summer grass beneath bare feet at evening
And the sharp bite of winter’s wind on tender skin.
Stay and envelop what is yours but you never took.
Out there you are alone, but here you have a home.
