Blue Eyed Susan
I wish I was in the car
Back on the road
Country music blaring
From my speakers and
Nowhere to be on time
I wish I was anywhere but here
Where the humidity
Lingers in every corner
Turning damp the corners
Of my eyes the way
I used to look at you
If I could find my voice
I would cry or sing or
Recite a whole funny movie
But instead I sit here
Mute as you close the door and
Are off to find yourself
I wish I could tell you
That you are right here
In my heart
I have nothing more to do
Than watch the shadows
Play across my bare feet
My head feels so old
I let my hair down in
A barren garden
Hoping to skate away on
A careless vine
But I know the truth
Today you left in an
Orange car and it will
Be a long time before
I see you again.
Back on the road
Country music blaring
From my speakers and
Nowhere to be on time
I wish I was anywhere but here
Where the humidity
Lingers in every corner
Turning damp the corners
Of my eyes the way
