Emo Music Is Bae

Why Emo music is Beneficial?
What do you all think of when you hear the word emo?  Well for me I hear someone that is not afraid to be Emotional and be himself or herself.  Now what do you all think of emo music?  Do you think it is demonic or if you listen to it, you worship Satan?  Well I for one love to listen to emo music.  Now I took the liberty to go around seeing what a few other people thought of emo music.  I for one am certain that emo music is beneficial, and I am here to tell you why.                                                                                 I asked someone what she thought of emo music.  Now she happens to love a band called Black Veil Brides, which many people argue is rock.  Well rock music is a variation of emo music.  Here is her reply.                                                      “I think emo music is a good for everyone.  Just think about the artists who write and sing the music.  Most people when writing music write what they feel.  Therefore, the artists are getting stress and other harmful thoughts out of their head.  It is like a release of built up emotions.  Now think about people that enjoy the music.  They are feeling the same thing that their favorite artists too.  It makes them feel like they are not alone in what they are going through.  People that listen to the music listen because it helps them feel better about themselves and the music shows that what they are going through to make them feel that way will end.”      Now I also asked a girl  her thoughts on emo music.                               “People think that hard metal or Sreamo music is satanic but it’s not if you just listen closely.  Depressed and emo kids start to say that when they get sad so they just get lost in the music.  People say that Nikki and others is real music but it is not.  They sing about sex, emo music is helping you from killing yourself, and cutting.  The reason they scream is for you to hear what they are saying.”                                                            Now you have heard two people’s thoughts on emo music.  Still need more evidence?  Well I came prepared and have an abstract of a study proving that emo music is helpful.  This study explores listener’s experience of music-evoked sadness.  Sadness is typically assumed undesirable and is therefore usually avoided in everyday life.  Yet the question remains: Why do people seek and appreciate sadness in music?  We present findings from a survey with both Western and Eastern participants.  The survey investigates the rewarding aspects of music-evoked sadness, as well as the relative contribution of listener characteristics and situational factors to the appreciation of sad music.  The survey also examines the different principles through which sadness is evoked by music, and their interaction with personality traits.  Results show four different rewards of music-evoked sadness:  reward of imagination, emotion regulation, empathy, and no “real-life” implications.  Moreover, appreciation of sad music follows a mood-congruent fashion and is greater among individuals with high empathy and low emotional stability.  Surprising, nostalgia rather than sadness is the most frequent emotion evoked by sad music.  Correspondingly, memory was rated as the most important principle through which sadness is evoked.  Finally, the trait empathy contributes to the evocation of sadness via contagion, appraisal, and by engaging social functions.  The present findings indicate that emotional responses to sad music are multifaceted, are modulated by empathy, and are linked with a multidimensional experience of pleasure.  These results were corroborated by a follow-up survey on happy music, which indicated differences between the emotional experiences resulting from listening to sad versus happy music.  This is the first comprehensive survey of music-evoked sadness, revealing that listening to sad music can lead to beneficial emotional effects such as regulation of negative emotion and mood as well as consolation.  Such beneficial emotional effects constitute the prime motivations for engaging with sad music in everyday life.                                                                         Music is helpful.  We all can agree on that.  Listening to sad music can give one peace or nostalgia.  If you want to experience more than one emotion during a song, listen to emo music because you will hear at least three usually more.  Now have any of you changed your opinions of emo music?  Because  after seeing all this evidence and with me already thinking it is helpful, my opinion is just the stronger.
