Reflection
A light shines through, disrupting the peace.
He sits up, for he cannot sleep.
He opens the blinds to find the source,
But what he sees, is so much worse.
He sees himself, but not his true reflection,
What’s in the glass, is a dark complexion.
He sees no smile, no light in his eyes.
He sees no stars shining in the skies.
For what he sees, is a blank expression.
To him he knows this is no deception.
The outside world, calm and peaceful,
Is an example of how he is not an equal.
He forces a smile, but the reflection stays still.
His inner-self displayed on the windowsill.
The light that was shining, so bright through the window
Is nothing more than a darkened dimple.
His smile is gone, his eyes are plain
He rests his head on the windowpane.
The reflection is gone, now it is just himself,
But this is no change to how he’s always felt.
He rests his head to forget his sorrows,
And prays he wakes to a happier tomorrow.
