shuffle shuffle
side to side
past the swings
past the slides
look on ahead
march in single file
straighten that stance
deflate that smile
shuffle shuffle
hither to thither
past caves stripped
of their golden glitter
the maidens are safe
from dragons now dead
recall quite fondly
of crusades you once led
shuffle shuffle
floor to floor
here's where you
get off the elevator
tighten that tie
adjust that collar
another long day
another dollar
shuffle shuffle
at a slowed pace
you cannot take
what you used to take
only work mattered
no plans to retire
you've yet to surpass
dreams you've aspired
