Otherwise
I do not always think of you
Sometimes I think of yesterday
And wonder why some memories
Stay buried forever
Sometimes I think of tomorrow
When the sunrise is fresh but I am not
Most of all I wonder
What freedom must be like
To come and go as I please
Do and say what I want
To sing with the stereo
And not be embarrassed
To cry out my frustration and anguish
To the walls, the closets
The linoleum
And play the piano at midnight
I don’t have a pet bird
But I would like a puppy
And at night
I lie awake and wish
I had an engagement ring
And my hair was the color
Of an autumn sunset.
Sometimes I think of yesterday
And wonder why some memories
Stay buried forever
Sometimes I think of tomorrow
When the sunrise is fresh but I am not
Most of all I wonder
What freedom must be like
To come and go as I please
Do and say what I want
To sing with the stereo
And not be embarrassed
To cry out my frustration and anguish
To the walls, the closets
The linoleum
And play the piano at midnight
I don’t have a pet bird
But I would like a puppy
And at night
I lie awake and wish
I had an engagement ring
And my hair was the color
Of an autumn sunset.
