Recent Dreams That I Don't Know What Mean
The past two nights
I've had these dreams
Of something pursuing,
Trying to devour me.
The first dream had a ghost
Wanting my soul hauntingly,
Following through hallways
Touching stealthily
And I felt my soul pull
Frighteningly
Backwards and upward,
Violently.
The pressure was so strong
I couldn't even scream
And I twisted and fell
Uncontrollably.
In the second a large dog
With a desire to feed
Followed me around
Faithfully
With an unnatural smile
Full of sweaty greed
Persisting to be close
To taste as I slowly bleed
The damn thing was everywhere
I ran away to flee
To escape the inescapable
Sociopathic beast.
I kept waking up
Writhing in anxiety
Until I took some time,
Like a moment or three,
To pull my composure
Tighter around me
And remind myself
It's okay to breathe.
Now, I'm not quite sure
What it all means
But I hope that tonight
I just don't dream.

I once heard an analogy that dreaming is sometimes like defragmenting a hard drive. Your brain sorts through the mass accumulation of observations it doesn't have time to sort through in the moment, and that lends to some twisted and interesting stories. Anxiety and random fear were definitely components in the actor of these two plays. haha

My personal belief about dreams: as you sleep, your mind will interpret stimuli from internal environment (physical, mental, emotional), the immediate external environment (sounds, objects, people), and your stage in life (where you are going, unresolved issues, worries, etc) and mythologize it into one idea or story. And so everything in the dream becomes some aspect of you. In a way, you are fragmented into many things, but, like you said, it could be one aspect of you combating another. The human drama is alive and well. (i believe the mind processes all information - it just does not do it in a linear, logical or conscious way, but rather vertically and horizontally).

The ghost and dog might be symbols of something, possibly unresolved issues. The ghost might be a haunting from the past, pulling your soul backward. It could be a person with whom you've never gotten closure or some kind of unfinished business. The dog's more vividly described. You describe him as being sociopathic. I'd guess he's more of a threat in the present tense and probably a specific person. Knowing what dreams mean doesn't guarantee they won't return, unfortunately. I hope you get a good night's sleep. I do a lot of twisting and turning myself.

Yes,the power of dreams. Some dreams are special,some are so strange. Some say dreams are portals. I remember when I was a kid that I had this blanket with bright colored squares and triangles. One night these symbols haunted me in my dream,weirdest ever dream...

I agree with the idea that most dreams are like a computer defraging - I also think that most dreams have no real meaning at all. However being a sufferer of PTSD some dreams can be re-runs of actual past events Our sub concious is a mind rapist and it is in charge of dreams and flashbacks having said all that I still love this poem and its conclusion :-)
