Inamorata
Trying to run my soul dies,
And back to you my heart flies.
Do not mistake, I love you so,
But I've loved before, like all do.
I thought we'd love forever,
The final day did my life sever.
I never thought I'd love again,
You bring me such pain.
I love you though I cannot hide
I hope my side you can abide.
Take my hand as you did my heart,
Although it's not long before we part.
I only ask don't squeeze too tight,
I cannot face another night.
And back to you my heart flies.
Do not mistake, I love you so,
But I've loved before, like all do.
I thought we'd love forever,
The final day did my life sever.
I never thought I'd love again,
You bring me such pain.
I love you though I cannot hide
I hope my side you can abide.
Take my hand as you did my heart,
Although it's not long before we part.
I only ask don't squeeze too tight,
I cannot face another night.

This piece has some good verses in it. The last 3 verses are my favourites though.

Thank you very much! It may be interesting to know that, originally, it was one long stanza but I decided to split it up - BP

Re: Inamorata
the influence of the Romantics makes itself apparent in your poem.
how many loves were lost in the past, how many more to come...

Thank you! You're correct, poets like Shelley and Byron serve as some of my main influences - BP
