Do You Even Want To Know

Do you know,
That now I can't trust them.
Even when they present nothing but the best intentions.
Men.
But you don't know- you never ask.

Did you know
That when they speak, "I love you."
I can't believe them,
but you'll never know that,
you'll never ask.

I bet you didn't know
That when they try to compliment me,
I have panic attacks
Those moments bring me all the way back,
But I guess it doesn't matter, cause you won't ask.

Slinging around your words
Of hurt, of contempt, pride, anger, and lies.
But this little girl inside,
Broken, she cries,
Day after day she hides.

She'll say she's fine,
Her grown self nothing but a mask, a lie.

Did you know, that even their prayers for me,
Make me run away?
Trying to protect my own heart these days,
And you're the reason she thinks she'll die alone
Never loved, always hurt.

You're too wrapped up in yourself.
To believe
That even after all these years,
She's wanted the best for you.
Continued to love you.

She wants everything to be right again,
to say once more, "Come on in."
But you don't know this.
You're blind.
Stuck in your own little mind.

You don't want to find me.
Men.
You aren't a very good one.
And everything feels so far from
perfect.

She'll never say, because she's afraid.
But you'll never know, you'll never ask.
