Strain & Pain
Strain & Pain
The phone rings and I say ‘Hi’
I hear what they say and can’t help but cry.
It feels like I’m falling from far up high!
Consumed by the fear that he really may die.
I’m in the car & have to fly
I’m miles away & so have ground to gain.
I get to A&E and see the strain.
I feel an uncontrollable pain.
He’s just lying there with a fixed stare.
Tubes and suckers, here and there.
We’re all craving help
But from where?!
In private I cry and even yelp!
Caught in a fight against despair!
Sat fixed to the spot in a hospital chair!
My head so heavy I just stare at the floor.
Waiting for the doctor to come through the door.
Desperately seeking the scent of ‘hope’ in the air!
Suddenly bang!! T door opens and the doctors there!
Heart’s a flutter and legs like butter!
The doctors words make me stutter!
More relief and thanks than I could ever say!
He’s stable now and we’re on our way.
At first sight it’s such a fright.
But to see him survive is true delight!
The feeling of panic & overwhelming dread!
Won’t leave my mind as he was so nearly dead!
It was without doubt the worst day that I’ve had!
The fateful day I so nearly lost my dad!!!
