My Dear

My dear, where have you been?
Oh my I've missed you so.
My my I've lost myself since then.
I swear by my beloved soul
that I appreciate the gift
you give my heart to grow.
Without you I become a smith
without my molten glow.

But now you're back into my arms,
for now, at least, I know.
You help me see, you help me charm
so darling please don't go.
I wouldn't say you're necessary
for me or my craft
but since you've come the things I've done
have blazed my brand new path.

But dear, oh dear, you left again
but this time I'm prepared.
I know the wound itself will mend
and now I'm much less scared.
I'm worried that my heart will shy
away from love and beauty.
I'm worried that I'll still ask why
you left me and my duty.

But onward I must trudge;
for idleness is death.
Toward the past I hold no grudge;
new air in each new breath.
I've learned the cold invigorates
me and my molten glow.
I truly do appreciate
the gift you gave my heart to grow.
