Beautiful Lies

We're taught to be happy,
to be selfless and strong
and to survive the tides of torment
as we drag our dreams along

We're taught to be carefree
yet we wish, worry and weep
and we long for a taste of truth and trust
as we "lie" ourselves to sleep

We're taught to love and accept it in return
but passsion plays tricks on the mind;
turning our desires into dirt and dust
and leaving pieces of the heart behind

We're taught to seek survival
as death beats hard on hope,
so we grab desperately into the void
only to clinch the knot on the rope

We're taught to avoid the chaos
but it is a lesson we love to forget
as desire drags its razor accross
the flesh of rotting regret

In the end we will fade into nothing
as death casually advances
leaving behind an empty life;
this lie of false romances.
