Image for the poem My body is not a temple.

My body is not a temple.

Everyone says your body is a temple,
But my temple crashed and burned years ago.
I gave it up when I shouldn’t have.
I’ve never felt more remorse
For letting the innocence I once had,
Be brutally ripped away from me.
While I screamed and cried
For him to stop.

But he wouldn’t seize to rip apart
The little girl inside of me,
And make me a regretful woman.
Who would have “What ifs?”
For the rest of her pathetic life.

I carried on, broken and bloody
And began to realize that my body
Is not a temple.
And no one could ever love me enough
To think it is special.
To want it all to themselves.
To love me entirely.
