Seeking Where We Are

The soul withholds nothing
while most our lives
we withhold nearly all,
and the pleasures
that we seek are there,
even at our fingertips
and only for the reaching.

In our silken beds,
the warm and soothing
tufts of rarest touch,
our rich embrace
of spirit fine and true
complains not
a single moment
and lacks only
our being open to it.

What native ritual
do we soft relent
that keeps us
from our nature's best?

What filament of fear exists
that keeps us
from our daily rest?

What will it finally take
to beset our misgivings
and lay our heads
within the sheath
of being who we are,
at home within
the nature
of all being?
