Can the heartbeat be beat?

She would smile at me when I came over
Her sparkling eyes, a promise held
For me in time
My love is blind
And her kiss would singe, lust, passion
I took her in my arms and burned
And now my restless heart breaks
Her look lacks conviction
It doesn't tell me to stay
Her kiss, a perfunctory whisper
Is not the love I had
Stark silence inhibits
Separates my carnal whimpers
And though through the night I'd hold her
What now I hold is empty of our old love
