"Choose"
Others choose to make promises they fail to keep
Unwilling to travel the path of true companionship
They choose to use prior bad experiences as excuses
Well worn memories, like a broken crutch
Visible to all who closely observe, they lean
Dangerously, trusting a frayed thread of security
Still, they choose the familiar pain
Alone, struggling, knowing it robs their joy
Choosing to sulk for no new cause, just history
They refuse opportunities to dismiss the storied crutch
And presently stand upright on their own two feet
Relying on today, sprinting toward love and care
Dismissing instead the one who brought great joy
For a short time, they freely loved and shared
But, they choose to be alone with the crutch
We must remember, when the past comes calling
Choose not to answer, I promise you
It has nothing new to share
