A Beautiful Warning
The dream I had the other night
awoke me in a sweaty fright
I was drunk in a funk
stinky as a wild skunk
Fighting friends and foes alike
acting as a little tyke
Screaming yelling calling names
losing at the winners games
Stamping stomping throwing stones
being bad breaking bones
I came to see at quarter to three
that was that the old ugly me
I had been warned through that scary dream
the disaster that might have been
Had I not found the fellowship
had I made the choice to nip
It would not take long
and it would be wrong
To screw the life I love to live
to laugh away all I can give
So I awoke and said a prayer
brushed my teeth combed my hair
Made strong coffee broke fast too
got dressed for work and went there too
awoke me in a sweaty fright
I was drunk in a funk
stinky as a wild skunk
Fighting friends and foes alike
acting as a little tyke
Screaming yelling calling names
losing at the winners games
Stamping stomping throwing stones
being bad breaking bones
I came to see at quarter to three
that was that the old ugly me
I had been warned through that scary dream
the disaster that might have been
Had I not found the fellowship
had I made the choice to nip
It would not take long
and it would be wrong
To screw the life I love to live
to laugh away all I can give
So I awoke and said a prayer
brushed my teeth combed my hair
Made strong coffee broke fast too
got dressed for work and went there too
