For Loukanikos(Λουκάνικος)

The Legend will live on old friend
though you are dead and gone
the struggle  must continue on
until the day of our  Red glorious dawn.
Friends Don't mourn, organize
rest a little then prepare to fight again
while wiping the tears from your eyes.

This dog's story must live forever
and so it must be told
 about the canine who broke
 free of Capitalism's choke hold.

 In 2011,
as Capitalism's latest crisis through the Eurozone crept
and the people of Europe were left hungry, and did nothing but  wept
fighting off the twin enemies of Fascism and starvation
black clouds swirled around Greece, a broken and destitute nation.

 But  relentless and uncompromising,
they  came to fight austerity and said this mustn't be
virtually ruled by the Fascists, the Golden Dawn
the callous murderers of Killah P.

Then through the riot shields arose
 Brave heroic 'sausage dog' ,
symbol to many a rebellious greek.
 and taught them never ever
  to turn the other
 cheek.
 But bite hard and fast
 the hand that feeds
 bite down on it
  till it bleeds.
and fuck the masters and the bosses
 who gamble with our lives
and make us suffer all their losses.

With 'riot dog' they said to the Nazi police,
" No Pasaran , they shall not pass"
and none of them was ever afraid
 of truncheon blows
 or clouds of
 tear gas.

This dog, The Scourge of Athens authority
The 'Black dog' of terror to the oppressor minority.
No ally to the rich but comrade of the rest
Not man's best friend but friend
 to  all of the oppressed.

 Not the Establishment's Cerberus
 but The People's
 dear beloved
 LOUKANIKOS!!!!!

Loukanikos(Greek for sausage) known as Louk, was a stray dog that joined anti-austerity protesters (especially anarchists) during the rioting that begun in 2011. More than a mere observer, Louk was often pictured at the forefront of confrontations with Greek authorities often standing in clouds of tear gas or facing down riot police.
The years took their toll on Louk who retired in 2013. Beloved across the world, we got the sad news in October 2014 that he had died peacefully at home in his sleep after being well looked after in his retirement. RIP)
