Robbing a grave

The cold air keeps a creeping fog low within the grounds
Providing perfect cover as the howl of wolves mask the sounds
The full moons shine lights the blackest of shadow
So no need for a lantern and its uninvited glow

The putrid smell oh so pungent works its way inside
Sweetly rotten fumes afloat are taken in by heavy sighs
Splinters deep within the dirty bleeding finger tips
Prove no hinder to the working of a grave diggers grip

Fingers give so easily these rings are almost free
Proving higher difficulty is prying gold from the teeth
The lifeless fight of a frozen corpse is more than one expects
Bones must break and flesh must tear no matter the detest

No shine of jewel or gem escapes the scrutiny of desperate eyes
Gold and silver sell okay but rubies are the prize
He goes to funerals as a friend just sniffing out the rich
The fortune buried underfoot is too hard to resist

Three moons in a row when the shine is most bright
He digs in the graveyard beneath the night light
No fear of the death sleeping down below
He robs the corpse and ravages souls
