Love's Enduring Pain
I cry all day
And sob all night
Struggling, trying to make things right.
I thought I was over you,
But I can’t help remembering all those things I thought were true.
Still the makes not difference,
You’ve told my heart, “ Good riddance!”
You’ve found another
One who’s old enough to be your mother
She’s double your years.
Still, that’s the least of my fears.
She has three children.
You took care of them with fatherly feelings.
Now your parents split you two up.
(Did I just feel my heart go thump?
It hasn’t beat in so long.)
(No! That’s wrong!)
Still, now you kiss me and hold my hands tight.
I can’t help feeling that it’s so right.
I try to remember you don’t love me, but her!
(I’ve got to stop these feelings starting to stir.)
I’m just your friend now.
(Something that just shattered my heart with a pow!)
Now what’s my goal?
Now that pain has consumed me, heart and soul?
Well, I guess it’s all about your happiness in the end.
So I’ll quietly listen as you talk about her and be there for you to lean on, a friend
And watch as you love her and force myself not to cry
And, when you return to her, let my heart wither away and die.
And sob all night
Struggling, trying to make things right.
I thought I was over you,
But I can’t help remembering all those things I thought were true.
Still the makes not difference,
You’ve told my heart, “ Good riddance!”
You’ve found another
