Ideas
Two lost souls
That's all we were
Neither knowing where the seas would take us
You had ideas
Big ideas
About big places and big dreams
Ideas only someone as carefree and as young hearted,
as you were, could think up
But I
I was different
I was in a constant storm
And on a ship that wasn't prepared for the damage that was to come
The ideas of mine were different
Small and short term
Only big enough to get through each storm that I next encountered
I was broken and there was no way to fix me
But you
You were lost in your ideas
I was lost in my ideas as well
Our journeys crossed and I was scared
Something like you wasn't part of even my wildest ideas
But we both learned that maybe we were each others fixes
Slowly I found a way out of my current storm
And when the skies cleared I saw you
I saw that one lone ship on the horizon
Slowly we found our way
Our souls didn't seem so lost
Our ideas became one
My ideas were filled with dreams of you
My ideas became bigger
Stronger and long term
Your ideas expanded
Minutes turned to hours
Hours turned to days
Days turned to weeks
With forever in our sights
From the outside my ship looked as though it were fixed
And hell, the inside looked good too
But you told me forever could never be
Your ideas would soon become reality
They would remain the same
With only a few minor revisions
My ideas
My ideas shrank
They filled with thoughts of life without you
My ideas became too hard to handle
And I could no longer share them with you
In fear that they would be too hard for you as well
You assured me that our ships would dock next to one another again
But that idea seemed too far into the distance
Ideas like that weren't worth thinking up
You prepared for a part of your journey to begin
I prepared for a part of mine to end
We found ourselves in each others arms for what seemed like forever
Weeks turned to days
Days turned to hours
Hours turned to minutes
I savored the time spent with you and
I could only hope you were doing the same
Unsaid ideas still lingered in the air
That stale summertime air
I wondered who would say it first
I wondered if it was even part of your newfound ideas
But it was too late to wonder
But I
I found myself in a magical place
A place away
Far away
A place where my ship would fully repair from months of damage
A place without you
I soon got used to life without you
I found a family and a home
All things that were permanent
Things I could rely on for a long time
My ideas grew once again
They still danced with your presence and
You cluttered my mind
You wouldn't leave
Leaving no room for my new dreams and experiences
But when my ship sailed to port at least
You had already left
Looking into the distance
Storm clouds appeared
My ideas were hard to comprehend
So were yours
Vagueness
That's all I received from you
My ship continued on it journey
Nearly outrunning those clouds
But they would roll in
They would roll in soon
My ideas were still filled with pictures and memories
Days without you
Turned to weeks without you
The skies weren't clear
But I saw you
I saw that lone ship on the horizon
Just out of my reach
The storm rolled in
Surrounding my ship
Darkness and damage
My ideas
Your ideas
All lost in the clouds
One lost soul
That's all I am.
That's all we were
Neither knowing where the seas would take us
