Infinite Elation
Two grown women
and lots of playground equipment.
Never did I think we would
one day fit that description.
Sun, some sand, sticky sugar coating our hands;
I really felt like I was a kid again.
We made castles in the sand,
fed some seagulls a couple of french fries by hand
and you even got a local band to play
our song.
I was honestly so happy all day long.
You even taught me how to make a pinwheel
except this time I didn't cheat and use hot glue.
We walked around town for a bit,
took in the sights, the sounds.
Then we went into the arcades
and played a couple cheap games;
the blue polka dot bunny that you won me
is something I'll definitely treasure forever.
Then,
once the sun finally set,
we went home;
both tired and sunburned to the bones.
But you didn't make me drive
because you said I looked tired
and that I should try to sleep.
As reluctant as I was to take the passenger seat,
just knowing you pay that much attention to me
makes me happy.
Once home,
we got takeout
and then shortly afterwards
passed out.
I didn't sleep in the car
because I wanted to keep you company,
after all, you did deserve it for stepping up and driving.
So, here we are again;
both happy,
content,
carefree and resting easily
in each other's arms.
I never knew such a simple things
could make me feel so cheery.
But I suppose anything could make me feel this way,
so long as you're somewhere near me.
