Namarah: My First Motherhood
After trial by water,
And fire,
And by blood
You came.
Golden-haired creation,
Golden-skinned and glistening.
Your tiny fury declared to all present
As you were lifted from my crimson nest.
‘Emergency Caesarean’ they called it,
But to me, you had chosen to rise
Like angels do
From the hot and the red.
I knew you. You had come to let me
Love you completely and purely
But with a ferocity to rival the wolf.
I slept then, as did you
And we dreamed together.
All else seemed grey and far away.
And this time
You heard my heartbeat from the outside.
And fire,
And by blood
You came.
Golden-haired creation,
Golden-skinned and glistening.
Your tiny fury declared to all present
As you were lifted from my crimson nest.
‘Emergency Caesarean’ they called it,
But to me, you had chosen to rise
Like angels do
From the hot and the red.
I knew you. You had come to let me
Love you completely and purely
But with a ferocity to rival the wolf.
I slept then, as did you
And we dreamed together.
All else seemed grey and far away.
And this time
You heard my heartbeat from the outside.
