Price of Torment
I sat in the park today,
on the bench under the statue of the two lovers,
and in that statue,
again,
I saw us.
For a very long time,
I sat there,
and cried silently.
Then an old man came and sat next to me,
he looked at me,
looked at the statue,
and he knew my torment.
He asks me,
"Tell me somethin' boy, what would you give, to see her again"?
I look deep into the eyes of this man,
and say,
"I don't know you, where did you even come from"?
He says,
"Son, my name is Mr. Lucy, now please, answer my question. What would you give, to see her again"?
I blatently answer,
"Sir, I would trade this world,
this life of mine,
all my possesions,
damn near anything. May I ask, why do you care"?
"What if I told you,
that I can help you see her again"?
I said,
"I don't think you get it, she died,
what seems like a lifetime ago".
"I understand fully,
you can see her again,
for the price of your essence,
your soul".
I think to myself,
that this couldn't be possible.
So,
"Sure, why not".
we shook hands,
and parted our ways.
On my way to work the next morning,
I saw her,
She looked so happy...
under the arm of another guy.
I shut off my car and got out,
I ran towards her,
eyes blurred from tears,
lungs burning from unbelief.
I said her name,
"Red...".
At that moment,
I died,
because she didn't know me.
on the bench under the statue of the two lovers,
and in that statue,
again,
I saw us.
