The Clowns Tear
It glistens in the circus light, representing hidden loneliness.
Only the clown knows of his desolate heart and endless hurdles of despair.
The audience knows the clown as a cheerful relic crying for joy.
The ringmaster orders the clown about.
The audience anticipates acts for laughter.
Once again the clown performs.

...bit cliche' and a bit underdone, for me...the crying-on-the-inside clown has been done to death...would have liked to read what the ringmaster knew, or the inside-the-head thoughts of the clown to show us he/she is sad, without just telling us...nothing wrong with it, just felt like poetry-lite...

I pulled this out of the archives....I may have written this in the 90's but it reminds me of a mood that I use to seriously dwell in. What the ringmaster knows now would be a great follow up to this, thanks.
