04:22

Roll your sleeves up,
take off your boots,
it's over.
Take a Leffe from the fridge,
roll a cigarette
and pour out a couple of glasses:
One for me, and one for me
when I'm done with the first.

This silence is tres beau...
Everyone else was unconscious
and drunk hours ago.
I'll watch the sunrise
with a heavy head
and dirty work-sodden hands
as the crazies get ready
for church.

The birds will start singing
soon, and I'll slowly mix in
Mahler's second.
Listening in on them
to make sure they keep up.

Tonight, the divider
between 'them' and I
is well built,
and I toast to that,
I live for that
and I have that.

Take your busy pubs and clubs...
I have 04:22
and it sings with the absence
of everyone else.
