Following My Dreams
When I say I'm following my dream
It's not because Disney told me too
Or because my mother wanted the best for me
Not because I was raised in a house with support
I follow my dream because no one else is following theirs
I was raised in a house
Where children were seen and not heard
Where summer vacation was nothing more than panic attacks and attempted suicides
Where my father's motto was-
"Hope in one hand
Shit in another
And see which one fills up faster."
Dreams were nothing more than to be forgotten when I woke up
I follow my dreams
Not because I wanted to be a princess
Not because the motivational speeches as school told me I could
I follow my dreams out of spite
I follow my dreams because people told me I couldn't
It's not because Disney told me too
Or because my mother wanted the best for me
Not because I was raised in a house with support
I follow my dream because no one else is following theirs
I was raised in a house
Where children were seen and not heard
Where summer vacation was nothing more than panic attacks and attempted suicides
Where my father's motto was-
"Hope in one hand
Shit in another
And see which one fills up faster."
Dreams were nothing more than to be forgotten when I woke up
I follow my dreams
Not because I wanted to be a princess
Not because the motivational speeches as school told me I could
I follow my dreams out of spite
I follow my dreams because people told me I couldn't
