Riley Thomas

He will always be to you, much more than I could be.
More important, more vital, more significant than me.
His smile will always be prettier than mine,
You already love him more than me, I'll deal with it, in time.

You'll watch him sleep, because you can,
In thirty years, he'll still be your man.
I'll just be there, somewhere, in the back of your mind,
And at some point, you'll forget, I'd be the one you used to be the one you'd find.

I'll look for you, find you, kiss you on the cheek,
You'll be looking over my shoulder, for the man you seek,
I'll be there. Right beside you, and you won't know,
You'll forget that I ever promised you so,

When it is just you and me,
It will always be that man you see.
There's one thing that I'll never hold against you.
He has been and always will be my little boy too.

He may not be my own, not my flesh and blood.
But I love that little boy more than I ever thought I could.
