Loving Lies

Here I sit in this room all alone.  Wanting, longing for the ring from the phone; for the call from you that you're on your way home.  When the phone finally rings, I sigh with relief.
"I'll be home soon," you say, "I was out with the girls and lost track of time."
The rain begins to fall as I listen to your lies.  If only your friends hadn't called just before asking where you were.  If only you stayed true and didn't run around like a harlot from the days of old.  As I hang up the phone I head to our room... my room now.  I will have your things packed by the time you return.
It's 12 minutes past 2 AM when your headlights appear in the driveway.  I sit in the near dark with only an oil lamp on, but no book in sight.  I stay seated even when you open the door, not even looking up.
"You've been unfaithful."  I state in a calm, but stern voice.  "I don't know why, or with whom, all I know is it's true."
"Where am I supposed to go!"  You shriek frantically when your tear filled eyes set upon the luggage I've packed for you.
Droplets glisten dimly in the flickering light of the lamp, falling from your once beautiful face.  The sad, almost pitiful, look you've bestowed nearly causes me to cease my attack.  When I look in your eyes I want to give in, forgive, and forget.  Yet.. I hold strong staring straight into the doorways of your soul as I explain the situation.
You will sleep on the couch tonight.  In the morning, once you've arranged somewhere to stay, I'll gladly help you move your things.  I turn to go to bed when you grab my arm.  You plea that I don't do this, that I give you a second chance.  I kindly inform you that your second chance once thrown away when you lied to me.  I continue to the bedroom shutting the door behind me.  I never thought it would come to this, but no future is certain; no one can see what is yet to be.
