he responds, “I never have.”
a jading bright remark
just to go on shading
speaking light on something dark
wondering out loud, “you did?”
thinking you said otherwise
shifts to, “probably didn’t?”
while hinting your despise
a supposed, “deserving fate”
my spoken naïve thought
as vacant a response you say,
guessing, “probably not?”
you carry a wish, you knew?
mad for your maddening tow
a saddening “Yes” and into…
“Again though, probably no?
a bystander of a fight
my best bet you presume
with war at odds you wage,
favoring not what you assume
combating your own conflict
please, aim to understand
I won’t ever shoot you down,
as a soft/safe place to land
never asking you to charge
or take some foreign hill
“probably’s” have no place
and die for you, I will!
