Road of Memories

I walked along the road one night,
Hand and hand with friends,
Who pretend to have forgotten,
And come to different ends,

Yes, we have loved less and more,
In different times and different places,
But when we see the glowing moon,
It still reflects their faces,

One pretended not to care,
Her home punished affection and awe,
Till later feeling threw her skyward,
And her next lover bore the fall,

Another thought his sameness in passion,
Was a sin,
So he cried and bit and struggled,
I hope that he’ll accept the sameness that’s within,

A third betrothed herself in honest fear,
She’d cry too fast and hard,
Her fears and instigations,
Always left her couplets barred,

The last one that I speak of,
Was the one that made most sense,
For it was I that shot our romance,
Burned the bridge and tore the fence,

In all the different faces,
From I have lost and care and learned,
Share with me great memories,
When I give them their due turn,

Because here upon the roadside,
In the moonlight with my friends,
It is easy to paint pictures,
Of what went wrong where and when,

But caught up in the moment,
Of emotions neurochemical spells,
It is less like simple phrasing,
More as heaven gone to hell,

So at each stop upon the road,
I let them go and wave goodbye,
That my intimates from worlds gone past,
Are never met with watered eyes.
