Birth In Water

Crash, swirl and calm surface
Underneath, a current runs, rips and drown
Turns, head over heel
Which way is up, which is down?

Struggling, kicking, floating my way up
Breath, none left, burning, burning, burning
Breaking throuhg, lungs refill, waves crash
Body, soul, mind, all turning, turning, turning

Stuttering, spluttering, unmoving
Closer, to the shore, slowly, too fast!
Slammed upon the earth, water recedes
Eyes open, light, much too bright.

Trying, failing, legs move, successful
Feet drag, cuts and bruises, perfectly fine
Body weak and smile sincere
This mind, this soul, this life, is mine
