PEARL DIVING (12-20-05, Sunrise; Galveston Island, Texas)
broken lines
of ink
bleed out
from tip of pen
in hand
through calm
stilled mind
onto nocturnal page
again
one word
at a time
begins then ends
soon followed
by another
like thin
wiry strings
of black word
pearls
though so few
ever seem
to become true
jewels
yet still somehow
they come
together
to gather of their
own accord
drifting up from
innermost depths
like sunken
unexpected gifts
of subliminal
buried treasure
they surface up
out of deep
mystical darkness
as if to seek
and reach
more lucid light
of forthcoming day
slowly formed
over time
through some strange
subconscious
alchemy
and other
unseen unknown
variables
of collective circumstance
where hidden
within some dark
womb like
space
of moist somatic
obscurity
they gradually grow
one layer
at a time
until congealing
into
their final form
wherein
a single
grain
of seed thought
sand
can somehow
in its
secluded purge
mysteriously
be transformed
into
a beautiful
luminous pearl
or a single
word
alone
which can spark
like seed
the sudden sprouting
of new poems
transcending
even
the oceans vastness
beyond
the depths
up from which
they come
up from which
this one
now
has just arisen
to nestle
here
in my slippery
sleeping mind
dislodged
from some
other
unknown oblivion
stirred up
by my dreams
in which
i sensed
its distant shines
soft reflection
signal me
while adrift
away
so deep
within
my own
subconscious
timeless submersion
as its
gentle call
comes
to only
partially awaken me
to pry it free
from its
etheric hold
to release it from
its inner
journey
as it releases
me
from mine
where upon
its sudden escape
i witness
its virgin birth
and consider
its
curious form
while listening closely
in hopes
of discovering
any subtle
intuitive meaning
within
the freshly
congealed unfolding
of its newly
surfaced song
so mysteriously
arisen
quietly here
upon the soft
pale light
of this silent
new days
dawn
now both
so gently
born
and come
into
their own
inner
and outer
illumined
ripe
fruition
here
