See Past the Disguise
How many of them come and go so many that I’d love to know
Each remembered by a unique face yet soon they fade and new replace
There were moments when I was convinced this was the one for me
But was there something more that I could not see
For I’ve felt this feeling a hundred times, and each of them inspired a thousand rhymes
And taken those rhymes paired together knowing that words at least can last forever
Then rereading them I wonder why each one had the same effect on me
Always inspiring some sort of poetry, as if each one that I thought to be unique
Was merely just another craving that would build then peak
Then slowly interest would be lost but repeat itself at my heart’s cost
If there is one whom I would know that holds something which does not readily show
Perhaps then I would easily flow alongside a tide with gentle glow
Lighting my night, its subtle crash, caressing sand and always coming back
My wave of hope my gust of youth to suck me back into a child’s truth
That nothing in this world is of care when I’m here with you I sense no scare
And like the ocean’s depths the beauty comes from the mystery of what’s too dark to see
Luckily I am a dreamer and soon enough I will have seen her
Floating along the horizon for a dreamer’s eyes have learned to see past the disguise
I warn my son do not be confused for your own thoughts will have you used
They drift along trying to suck you in, those evil currents made of sin
You must not dive until you can swim and when you’ve learned still think again
If you don’t feel what’s deep inside there may be something you too hide
First love yourself then take to the sea perhaps while you’re there you’ll think of me
A solo adventurer who's come to peace while drifting through that crowd
Each remembered by a unique face yet soon they fade and new replace
