We Are Stained
I did everything right; Kissed you right, Held you just
Sheltered you from the bright light, Gave the world a sight with our lust
Protected you from every danger, Kept you laughing
Rearranged flowers against my own will just to be sappy
Said every word with pure clarity, Made moves to be envied
Still you question my sincerity, Still you make purity stained
I can't explain why we are stained
I'm just lain out in the wind chained
To our own love, To our own past
I raise my hand above, And asked
Did I stutter one too many times?
Did I make a cliche seem like a line?
I can't always make sense when I'm lost inside
I'm on the edge of a cliff and it's a rising tide
I'm in a ghost town, No sound, Just lost pride
Drinking wine, Drinking you away, One more time
I can't explain why we are stained
I'm just lain out in the wind chained
To our own love, To our own past
I raise my hand above, And asked
Would you marry me?
How many times did I practice that simplicity
Must've been a thousand times, Even made it witty
Would you bring her back?
I asked the heavens everyday, Said it in different ways
Guess I just couldn't find the right way
Walked straight out the front door
Left the roses and took only my soul
Bloodied the walkway, Declared war
Wrote the truth on a lost scroll
Sheltered you from the bright light, Gave the world a sight with our lust
Protected you from every danger, Kept you laughing
Rearranged flowers against my own will just to be sappy
Said every word with pure clarity, Made moves to be envied
Still you question my sincerity, Still you make purity stained
I can't explain why we are stained
I'm just lain out in the wind chained
To our own love, To our own past
I raise my hand above, And asked

Did I make a cliche seem like a line?
