Goodbye
It was November 2nd, 2008, My dads birthday. We all waited impatiently for his arrival from work. as my father entered the house we all ran to hi and yelled out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" He hugged us with happiness. My mother rushed to the kitchen to get out the cake. We all sat at the dinner table watching the candles being lit. My dad turned red with embarrassment as we sang happy birthday. As we were eating our cake my father suggested we go by our grandparents house. It sounded like a good idea so my mom wrapped up the rest of the cake and we left.
My grandparents lived just around the corner. We were all greeted with hugs and kisses. sitting in the kitchen we all discussed the past. My grandfather, a tall and thin man, kept looking at us with a pleasant smile. My grandfather was a very hard working man. There wasn't a day that passed when he didn't work. My grandfather was very generous and helped us whenever anyone was in trouble. Because he was diabetic he was told not to eat to much sweets. Since it was my fathers birthday he took a slice. He turned to my aunt telling her that he couldn't finish eating it. He started to have pains in his side.
It was getting late so we decided to leave. As we arrived at our house the phone rang. I was curious to find out who it was so i listened in. By the expression on my fathers face i knew it was serious. As he held the receiver, his face grew pale staring out into nowhere. My father had no real expression anymore. He slammed the phone and yelled. Rushing he put his coat on and ran out of the house suggesting we follow. my dad said something, but all i heard through the excitement was "grandpa" and "heart-attack". As soon as i heard those words my heart pounded harder. I ran as fast as i could passing everyone up. I rushed into my grandmas' house. My aunt seen me and pulled me aside into the other room. All i could see was my father pushing down o something and crying. There laid my grandpa. My father was trying CPR on him.Just seeing him there made my stomach hurt. seeing that he wasn't waking up made my eyes fill up with tears that could not be held back. The house was filled with cries and moans. I didn't want to believe what was happening. Finally the paramedics came with their equipment and ran towards my grandpa. I watched in hope, praying for him to open his eyes. "please grandpa wake up for me." The paramedics then moved him onto the stretcher and put him in he ambulance. Everyone followed. I was told they were going to take him to the hospital and everyone was also going. As they left my mom told me to take my little sisters home.
My sisters, aunt and i waited in anticipation at home. It was getting late and my eyes were puffed from all the crying. We all went to sleep. Suddenly i felt someone in the room. It was my mom who came in to check up on me.I woke up and hoped whatever happened that night was just a nightmare. My mom looked at me with a sincere face. Tears started to form in her eyes and it looked as if she wanted to tell me something. I watched her waiting for an answer. Finally, she closed her eyes and out she trembled the words, "Your grandpa is dead." I stared at her waiting for her to tell me she was only kidding and what a sick joke it was. She didn't say anything else and i hated her for telling me something i didn't want to hear.
I just couldn't believe it. I wanted my life to end right there and then. To me my grandpa wasn't dead, hes just on a long trip. I guess I'm still waiting here for him to come home.
