when you walk into a room

Every time you walk into the room
My heart seems to beat
So quickly and so loudly
That I can’t help but fear
That everyone will know
My feelings for you

Every time you walk into the room
I feel my eyes pulled toward you
So strongly it might be magnetic
Surely much stronger than gravity
Because even while gravity holds me down
The sight of you lifts me up

Every time you walk into the room
I think of that dance we shared
One slow, marvelous dance
Dancing with you was so easy
It felt like breathing; simple and natural
I don’t know if you remember it
It was at a wedding and I think you were drunk

Every time you walk into the room
I want to talk to you
I want to tell you everything
I have ever felt or thought
Tell you how I feel for you
To ask you how you feel about me

Every time you walk into the room
I long to reach out to you
To touch you, hold your hand
To caress your face or trace your lips
My physical desire for you
Is so great I fear it may crush me

Every time you walk into the room
I am sad; I know I will never tell you
I will never let you know how I feel
I will never let you know what you mean to me
I will never reach out to hold your hand
Or to cup your cheek in mine.
