Rest In Peace

If you've ever felt seduced
by suicidal thoughts,
thinking about the first cut
from a blade,
the numbness of pills,
piercing bullet from a gun,
leap off a bridge,
building
up to the point
where you commit
to the act,
then you've felt more alive
in that moment
than anyone who's never
given death
by their own hands a chance
to sink in
reminding themselves
how easily life can be taken
away at any moment;
by choice,
chance,
or mistake.

If you have given up
on the thought that nothing
will change for the better,
that you feel so low
where you don't know
any other way out,
than to bid adieu to the pain
by ending
your own life,
think about what has led you
to that moment,
what demons inside your head
have taken such a strong hold
over you
that you can't control
yourself to stop them from tearing
apart
the gift of life you were granted;
the name you were given
to protect since the day
you were born.

So if you are ready
to call it quits in this life,
may you find relief
in believing
that your afterlife
is what you will it to be
if your last thoughts
are of a place that brings you
peace.
