A Home For Me
since I was little girl
a home I have longed for
a house with a foundation
a fireplace in which to burn
a back yard to garden in
a place that I can be myself
I'd buy it old and run down
and spend my life fixing it up
I'd start with the outside
sand the layers off the boards
paint it a friendly shade of blue
put a fountain in the front yard
roses, lily of the valley, fox glove
my very own semi-poisonous garden
a rock garden; all my precious stones
Wisterias growing along the rock pathway
violets grow wildly among the grass
dandelions are welcome in my yard
pathways cut through my wildness
to the house, the garden, the workshop
Hydrangeas growing tall in along the fence
my home will be wild, carefree and beautiful
a garden fenced off from my pet poisons
my workshop will be made of re-purposed brick
the window panes painted a cheery yellow
handmade gargoyles glare down from the roof
of both the house and the workshop
seeing all through the camera lens they have for eyes
bat houses up high among the pine branches
bird houses in and on the lower ones
hummingbird feeders in the windows
Anthurium growing in unique unmatching pots
that are covered in thick clear glass to protect
from the cold atmosphere and to keep the warmth within
flowers and flowers, stones and other wild things
a pond in the back filled with frogs and fishes
a black cat and a stunning white pitbull
long on the small patio, beside an outside fire pit
designed iron bares bent and twisted to let the light out
and to keep the raging fire within
bent at the tops so that she could set pots upon
that's the place in which I am when I dream pleasant dreams
a home I have longed for
a house with a foundation
a fireplace in which to burn
a back yard to garden in
a place that I can be myself
I'd buy it old and run down
and spend my life fixing it up
